Hi all,
I’ve just wrapped up my second full day at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Three themes stand out: AI, Trump and Europe.
Watch my video for full commentary – abbreviated notes are available below.
AI
It’s impossible to take more than a few steps here without hearing about AI’s extraordinary trajectory. Dario Amodei of Anthropic has been reiterating his prediction that we could have “PhD-level” AI in just two to three years—vast, unprecedented capabilities that should make us all think hard about the implications. It strikes me that despite these rather jaw-dropping claims, the audience hasn’t fully absorbed the gravity of what he’s saying.
Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella reminded us of his fantastic metric—“tokens per dollar per watt”—to gauge AI’s efficiency and economic impact. It’s a clever way of capturing how quickly and cost-effectively AI systems can churn out useful results and I suspect it may shape how we track the progress of these technologies.
Trump
Although not physically present, Trump’s impact permeates the discussions.
