What I thought was really interesting from Amazon’s results was that about half of it’s operating income ($4.2b) came from AWS. I’m not sure what this was historically but that seems incredible to me!

👋 Hi EV team - this 2021 Sunday edition was the last time EV mentioned Bob Healy's Manna drones.

I think Manna deserves a more recent and bigger shout out, especially as they've just announced a partnership with Just Eat in Ireland.

Just Eat users in Dublin "will have the choice to receive their orders from participating partners via drones, which will be deployed from local delivery hubs operated by Manna."

I've discovered Manna late after listening to a recent interview between Bob and Ben Thompson last month. But since EV's last mention of Manna:

- Bob's team has clocked up over 165,000 successful deliveries

- have a scalable business model with a fixed delivery fee that is already margin positive on delivering something that’s trivial as a coffee

- average delivery time is <3 minutes (from loading the drone)

- a single Manna drone does 100 deliveries a day and could probably do more than that

- Manna needs less than 100 drones to operate a city of Dublin at 1.1 million people

- being based in Dublin, Manna have actually been enabled by EU regulation/rules which was also signed into law in Jan 2023

--- Result -> they now have a EU-wide license and can scale and go anywhere they want in EU

I hadn't appreciated how far along consumer drone deliveries had advanced until listening to the interview. Drone deliveries now feel like something that could scale up very quickly (not just an Amazon future project!).

It feels like Manna drones could have a truly transformative impact given the speed, low cost and profitability of their existing delivery service. And influence the makeup of cities in the future...if you know you can always get delivery of what you want in 10 minutes, the space and lower cost of suburban living may seem even more attractive versus urban living.

I think Manna might be one of Europe's most underrated tech companies! Definitely worth more of a shout out!
