🐙 AI lessons from the Far East

I spent 36 hours in Hong Kong this week meeting investors from across the region. Here are my impressions.

I went to Hong Kong for a quick trip last week. Spent a lot of time meeting fund managers from across the region and talking about the exponential transition.

As always, the video is more complete than the short summary, so I recommend you watch it. 

While we touched on electric cars, China’s burgeoning car industry and electrification, the topic they most wanted to talk about was artificial intelligence.

Really made me think quite hard about it and reflect on differences in Asia compared to the narrative in Europe and the US. And on the flight back, I reflected on the discussions and very thoughtful conversations.

I have three main takeaways:

  • On China’s prospects in developing advanced AI systems

  • On whether opensource might meaningfully change the terrain

  • On what the next 12 months could bring
